OPERATIONAL DATA STORE
Operational Data Store is a database optimised to process multiple queries, and that gathers data from various source systems during ETL (extract, transform and load) processes. Operational Data Store is a referential source of information intended to support current operations of companies, and to serve the analytics and reporting objectives. In the latter case, it perfectly supplements the data warehouse.
The ODS System is both an element integrating IT environments and an essential element of master data management in a company. When well‑designed, it gives the applications supporting various business processes a comprehensive access to the organisation’s data, and it provides the grounds for making specific business decisions.
The ODS operates on the basis of data models specific for each company. Thus, it cannot be implemented as a finished product. The solution we offer consists in dedicated software based on our own, in‑house developed code generation mechanisms, but, most importantly, on a thorough analysis of data to be integrated.

The ODS is characterised by:
- high quality of data – the ODS provides data which is up‑to‑date, exact and correlated between the systems. It supervises, verifies and thematically categorises data, regardless of their source. Therefore, it helps companies to find valuable information concerning their own activities.
- universal way of storing data – the ODS provides access to data to different recipients. Some recipients process transactions and perform a great number of minor operations consisting in the reading of data located in many different places. Others search through large data sets, gathering and summarising the results. The first utilisation scheme is often predictable – the systems make use of a well‑defined and efficient interface. In the second case, the queries are unknown at the time when data models are developed.
- storing changes – the ODS allows for recreating and storing the complete history of changes, and it provides mechanisms for notifying of these changes. Notifying of changes facilitates actualisation of data in external systems.
- consistent interface – the ODS gathers data form systems using different technologies and grants access to data obtained with different protocols. However, the access to data is provided through a consistent interface, making it easier to use them in other applications.
- improving accessibility and faster access to data – the ODS relieves the load on critical transaction systems in their every day functioning, and in case they are temporarily unavailable, e.g. during the close of the banking day, may uninterruptedly grant access to data or allow for authorising operations.
